American Blues Theater

American Blues Theater is one of the nation’s leading small theaters that connects art with service.

American Blues Theater is an Ensemble of artists committed to producing new and classic American stories that ask the question: “What does it mean to be American?” Founded in July 1985 by a director, playwright, actor, and designer, the company dedicated itself to new and classic American plays.

It was an honor for us to be part of the creation of American Blues Theater’s first home. Here are the technical details:

Exterior

  • Spray apply two coats Hi-Build Loxon XP to the existing face brick.
  • Paint existing coping.

 Interior

  • Painted the exposed pan deck ceilings and MEP’s in the Bar Area and Theatre.
  • Black out new drywall in recording studio along with providing a factory spray finish to emergency lighting to produce a camouflage in order not to distract artists or patrons of the theater.
  • Also provided wood grain faux finish on all blank plates to produce the same camouflage effect.
  • Armorseal 8100 two-part epoxy on 2400 Sq. ft of raw concrete floor in BOH corridors and dressing rooms, including a concrete stain “faux” finish in the restroom area’s raw concrete flooring.
  • Spray application of decorative window casings and certain exterior door casings.
  • Provided a custom paint job throughout, including paint grade base throughout the theater and use of darker colors on walls up to 20’ AFF.

This beautiful result was originally an ordinary Dollar Store location with extensive water damage. We would like to spotlight our client, LoDestro Construction, the general contractor with whom we worked on the conversion of the Dollar Store into the permanent home for American Blues Theater and a beautiful addition to the neighborhood. We thank American Blues Theater for this opportunity.

Feel free to reach out to the Hester Painting and Decorating team for more information about his project and to discuss your own beautiful renovation project.
