Hester Painting & Decorating Helps Refresh the Flowers for Almost Home Kids.
Hester has done a lot of work for the different Almost Home Kids facilities over the years, including our 40th Anniversary Charity Project for the Naperville location. This winter our friends at AHK brought a dilemma to our Sr. Project Manager, Jim Guthrie. They have had metal flowers in their Flower Garden, but the paint was always peeling. They asked Jim if he could resolve the issue with a longer term solution. Each of the steps is described below. They loved the “new” flowers, and they already have the newly painted flowers on display in the garden.
Upon receipt of the flowers to be repaired and refinished we:
- Chemically stripped all existing paint from each element of every flower.
- Wire brushed and sanded all clean surfaces to create an anchor pattern on this flimsy sheet metal.
- Primed them with Sherwin Williams Pro-Cryl primer.
- Performed many masking steps for each color each flower required.
- Middle of flowers were painted first on each side of each flower.
- Middles were all masked off for the painting of the petals.
- Sprayed using an HVLP spray machine. One side first, let dry completely, then second side.
- Removed masking tape and performed any spot touch-ups that were necessary.
Products used:
- Primer = Sherwin Williams Pro-Cryl.
- Finish Coats = Sherwin Williams Sher-Cryl HPA in a semigloss finish.
