Hester’s Latest Commercial Wallcovering Project is Bananas!

Hester recently had the great pleasure of installing this great smelling Flavor Paper named B-A-N-A-N-A-S. This is a delicate handmade paper with the added feature of Scratch and Sniff banana scent. It is amazing, and quite an eye catching wall in this tenant’s new office space in the Fulton Market neighborhood in Chicago.

B-A-N-A-N-A-S is a copper foil finish with a paper backing. This paper requires extremely detailed and professional installation.

With any thin paper and especially a foil (similar to gold leaf), wall prep is extremely important. No imperfections can be left in the wall prior to installation. All 7 panel areas were brought to a Level 5 finish and sealed with Zinsser Gardz per manufacturer’s instructions. Corners of each panel were made sharp, square, tight, and right. Each panel was measured to match the paper’s drop pattern. Each panel’s width required two sheets of the wallcovering.

After measuring was completed, sheets for each panel were pasted and left to book for 10 minutes. Sheets were then installed and seams were double cut to obtain the most clean-cut and perfect seams that we could provide using a foil-faced wallcovering.

The end result is fabulous and smells great!

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to let the paper "book"?

Booking the sheets means two things:

  1. Pasting the back and folding it a certain way as to avoid damage until the sheet is ready to be installed.
  2. Allowing the paste to penetrate the paper backing for a certain amount of time to make the paper as easy as possible to work with and install correctly.
